Ruapaka Wetland is a project led by Ngāti Kuia, with the support of Te Hoiere Project.
The Ruapaka Wetland project is a collaborative effort led by Ngāti Kuia, with the valuable support of the Te Hoiere Project, and Native Restorations. This initiative focuses on the essential task of clearing invasive willows and other weeds that threaten the natural balance of this crucial wetland ecosystem. Our dedicated team is actively engaged in drilling and filling methods to effectively manage and remove these invasive species, which can outcompete native flora and disrupt habitat conditions. By targeting these unwanted plants, we aim to restore the wetland’s natural biodiversity and enhance its ecological health. This project not only supports the preservation of native plant species but also helps improve water quality and habitat stability for local wildlife. Through our ongoing efforts, we are working towards a more resilient and vibrant Ruapaka Wetland, ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
